Okay, I think I have this figured out and Jared aka stubborn bastard has approved.
When Colin Ryland risks his life to save Jared Williams young nephew he earns the attorney's gratitude. But as Jared comes to know the open and caring man, the walls around his guarded heart fall quickly. Colin is hesitant at first but ultimately can't resist his attraction to this man with a sophisticated reputation who holds nothing back where his emotions for Colin are concerned.
But when a threat from Colin's past surfaces he and Jared disagree over it's seriousness. Then Jared takes matters into his own hands determined not to fail another lover and it may cost him the very man he is trying to protect.
Even worse, when Colin realizes that Jared was right all along, Jared may not live long enough for Colin to make it up to him.
So I was thinking about Saving Jared.....And when you read the book the Saving has more to do with Jared than just his life possibly being in danger.....Of course it will depend on what it is like after I finish it & polish it up...
Crap, how does everyone not go insane trying to decide on what to use for these? I finally went with part of the scene where James and Mason are introduced. FYI the book is told from Jame's POV
* * * *
The guy was talking with Kent about the types of calls our little rural fire department got and about how often it happened. I stood a little ways off from them, politely waiting for Kent to introduce us when they finished up. And if I took the opportunity to covertly look the guy over, who would know?
He was about six feet tall, which made him an inch or two taller than me. He was also a bit broader than me, and it was definitely a bigger bone frame that gave him the size. His white T-shirt was a little tight and wet, clinging to him in such a way it proved beyond a doubt the guy was fit. He wasn’t in any way close to being a freak of nature or body builder type of muscle bound. But he was definitely built. I was so glad that today was truck washing day.
His face was turned partially away from me so I couldn’t see his eye color or the exact shape of his face without tipping everyone off to what I was doing. So I just took in the dark brown hair with a little bit of a red tint to it. Cut a little long and shaggy, it looked casual and I liked it. It was a nice length. Just long enough to hold on to while you… Better stop that train of thought before certain parts of me proved that they still functioned in spite of the ‘dating drought’. If I wasn’t careful, I’d end up giving Tosh more ammo for later.
Too late. My phone gave the message tone assigned to only her texts. I mentally kicked myself for picking that particular one when I was ticked at her the other night.
Kent turned and asked, “Is that a braying donkey?”
I sighed. “Yes.”
“Let me guess. That’s Tosh texting you.” He didn’t say it as a question, just assumed it was his wife.
“You didn’t use the crazy bitch one?”
I sighed and explained for the new guy’s benefit. “I was annoyed, not pissed off this time.”
It looked like it took some effort, but Kent managed to choke down his laughter and turned back to the newbie. Poor guy was looking a little confused at the thought of a volunteer having those ringtones set for the fire chief’s wife.
Kent took pity on him and explained. “This is James Hara. He is my wife’s best friend. Has been since they went to college together. James, this is Mason Sullivan. He just moved to the area and wants to help out.”
While I traded hellos with him, I finally had the chance to look him fully in the face. I just about swallowed my tongue.
When I originally did this blog hop I put it on my Tumblr but I thought I would go ahead & post it here too now that I have my site up.
Okay, my *cough, cough* friend Beany Sparks sicced the blog fairies on me….I think she did it because I was putting off setting up a blog. I admit I have been avoiding this side of being an author because I am not that adept with computers.. *snickers*… Yeah, that was my computer laughing by the way. Yes, I am that bad.…..God help me when Beany decides it is time to set up my website.
Alrighty, here I go
1) What am I working on?
I am on Book 3 right now, an untitled stand-alone. I have gone back to m/m where I think my muse will be most of the time. My second book is an m/m/f novella of around 23,000 words scheduled for a fall release. It’s still going through editing so I’ll have to see where it actually winds up. While I enjoyed writing the second book and have another m/m/f in mind for in the future my muse is most definitely going to be m/m most of the time…..It might have something to do with him looking like Karl Urban …….and Nathan Fillion……Tom Hiddleston…..Chris Pine….Dominic Purcell….and others but mostly Karl.
2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?
Well, my first book, an m/m stand-alone, isn’t being released until this summer so I don’t really know if anyone will consider it different. However, one of the few people who has read it did say they loved the humor. I didn’t really set out to write funny things but I do have a highly inappropriate sense of humor in real life and it does seem to come out at the worst times. Open mouth insert NBA team sized feet. Trust me, not everyone finds me amusing so I tend to keep my mouth shut in public, so probably that does bleed through as I write. You know, that could be fun….*grins evilly*
3) Why do I write what I do?
Honestly, I don’t really know why I write m/m because I don’t presume to know how the male mind works, even after being married for almost 25 years. All I know is I find men in books and life to be funny, sexy, intriguing and highly entertaining (frustrating, annoying, infuriating) so that is where I follow my imagination to.
The thing is as I grew up I started reading romances because I am a die-hard romantic. I may not watch a lot of that type of movies because I prefer action and sci fi but when it comes to books I want a romance with a HEA. Even in my urban fantasy series that I read, but I will wait a long time in those. When I was a teenager I would read romances and while I did enjoy them I would be reading and thinking to myself….Why are you waiting for the hero to save you?.....There is fork right there on the table……STAB THE ASSHOLE IN THE BALLS FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!!!!.... …..So for a long time it was the guys in the books that I really enjoyed the most and not just because I found them hot.
Plus one guy is hot, two or more is just awesome.
How does your writing process work?
I drop the kids off at school, fix a ginormous cup of coffee, sit down at the computer and stare……and stare…..and stare some more….No, it’s not really that bad, but I am a very slow, methodical writer. I will write, go back, rewrite, go back and check something earlier in the story and realize that I have to change something. Either the new idea or the earlier scene. I am new at this so I am trying to figure out my process to be honest.
Book 1 I had a clear idea of everybody in the story and the plot. It actually flowed pretty well and stayed the way I had it in my head. I just had to learn how to actually write the story. Which was challenging and still is honestly. Book 2 was trickier because I had a harder time with the ménage dynamic. Now Book 3 is untitled officially for now. However on the computer it is labeled “Jared is a stubborn bastard” because when I sat down to start this book I had a clear vision of what he would be like….He is nothing like what I had in mind other than his job and his feelings for Colin…..While this book has followed the general outline of the plot, the tone is way different than I imagined……Thanks Jared. I actually mean that because Beany and my other friends seem to like the snippets but don’t tell him that…He is also a smug bastard.
I am always running book plots through my head during my day….Seriously….It is amazing I haven’t killed somebody in grocery store checkout aisle yet. Or burned the house down while cooking. The only time I am safe to be around is when I am reading……And you still need to set off a bomb to get my attention….or wave a Karl Urban pic at me……Or better yet, wave Karl…Please.
I think I have appeased the blog fairies now. If not, I have a salt shaker I am going to empty on the ground to keep them busy. I think I saw it on Supernatural and I am curious if it will work.
I'm starting out as a writer of M/M & a few M/M/F romances and who knows what else. I have deep appreciation of humor, sci fi, paranormal & all around weirdness...But most of all I love HEA's
